I’ve started reading Elementary Basic: Learning to Program Your Computer in Basic with Sherlock Holmes by Henry Ledgard & Andrew Singer. At first I was a little hesitant about reading a book written in 1982 attempting to teach me about computers via Sherlock Holmes talking about the Analytical Engine, especially when the first chapter contained this line:
“When you do this, you have at your command a kind of modern genie. For example, this entire book has been typed using a specialized computer called a word processor.”Sounds… promising. But then I got to the first line of chapter two:“To Sherlock Holmes it was always the Engine.”Aww yeah. This is going to be good.
What is this even. In other words, and quoting the Master: “…for strange effects and extraordinary combinations we must go to life itself, which is always far more daring than any effort of the imagination.”

To the man who gave us Sherlock Holmes and all of the classic tale’s glory.
The Guinness World Records has consistently listed Sherlock Holmes as the “most portrayed movie character” with 75 actors playing the part in over 211 films. Just to name a few…

I love the Mary Russell novels. Once you get over the fact that Mary Russell is punctilious and annoying—and I feel the need to emphasize that she becomes less so over the course of the books—each book is so rich that it needs a reread. “Rich” is really the first word that comes to mind when I’m…
I agree completely. Although I´ve never paid attention to the ACD bashing in the books, I´m absolutely upset about Watson´s portrayal. And the worst about it are the despising comentaries from Holmes and Russell when he´s not present to listen to them. Really, LRK.

I am really disappointed. I never ever post negative blogs, but I felt like this needed to be said. I’m sorry if I offend anyone or bum anyone out.
I noticed that on several of the images I posted, there were “reblogs” with some pretty negative, judgmental comments about the girls featured. At first I became angry and a little defensive.. but then I realized that I should feel bad. For a girl to make a hateful or judgmental comment about another girl who they don’t know a thing about, is a sign of weakness. It is as if they are crying out to the world for help. Their insecurity and jealousy is exposed…
Just because another person chooses to change themselves or their body.. or lead a different lifestyle than you prefer, does not give you the right to judge them. If they are not hurting anyone else in the process, how is it any of your business? Who do you think you are, that you are important enough to pass such judgments?
Humble yourselves. Live your own life. Learn to love yourself and stop hating.
